It is with great pleasure that we announce Dr. Jonathan H. Jiang, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, United States, as the Founding Editor-in-Chief for Journal of Humanity's Future in the Cosmos (JHFC). Dr. Jonathan H. Jiang is a Principal Scientist and Group Supervisor at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology, where he leads the Aerosol and Cloud Research Group. Over the past two decades, he has conducted pioneering research in atmospheric science, climate modeling, and astrophysics, with particular expertise in satellite-based retrieval of cloud microphysics and aerosol-cloud-climate interactions.
Dr. Jiang earned his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from York University, Canada, and holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Astrophysics from York University and Beijing Normal University, respectively. He completed postdoctoral training at McGill University and Caltech, and has held faculty or research appointments at institutions in Canada, China, and the United States.
He has served as Principal Investigator (PI) on numerous NASA-funded programs (e.g., ROSES AC, XRP, MAP), and currently contributes to both ongoing (MISR, CloudSat) and upcoming (MAIA, ENTICE) satellite missions. His research portfolio also includes cutting-edge work in exoplanet science and long-term projections of humanity’s future in space.
Dr. Jiang has published over 220 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals including Nature, Science Advances, PNAS, and Nature Astronomy, accumulating more than 14,000 citations with an H-index of 62. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Earth and Space Science Open Archive and serves on the editorial boards of major geoscience journals.
